FIRE IN THE SKY
"Fire in the Sky" was a biopic that came out in movie theatres in 1993. It was about a young forestry worker named Travis Walton. Travis was working in a forested area in northeastern Arizona called the White Mountains.
One day his crew worked late. Driving home at dusk the crew noticed a very intense glow above a ridge next to the logging road.
The crummy stopped and only Travis got out to have a closer look. He hiked up the ridge and never returned! his fellow crew members became impatient and left without him.
Several days later Travis was found naked in a phone booth next to a rural gas station! He was very cold and was covered in slime. He claimed that he had been abducted by aliens!
For the rest of his life he became very aloof and mentally unstable and was tormented by flashbacks of his experiences with the aliens.
The movie never showed what he saw over that ridge. My painting illustrates what I think he saw.

"Colour for me is very important in creating my images. I live on a hillside on beautiful Thetis Island. My house overlooks the Salish Sea and the Gulf Islands. The sea's currents and whirlpools glitter with reflective sunshine. on windy days the sea is decorated with frothy white caps... I view a big blue sky and interesting cloud formations. There is always a variety of birds flying above. On clear nights the sky displays awesome moon shows and brilliant constellations. Thetis Island is a very inspirational place to paint."
